My Yankees and the pathetic Mets have poured money into their teams for years with nothing to show for it. My favorite Yankees teams were the early Jeter years when we wont the first Series. Roster was full of young stars (Jeter, Mariano, Bernie) and old castaways (Boggs, Fielder, Gooden, Strawberry). Once they started paying for players like Arod and Stanton the team was much harder to root for.

I admit. I was excited to see Ohtani signed. In fact, I thought it was inevitable. I thought he should have gone to the Dodgers when he first came over to MLB. If I was in a bubble, I would be over the moon. But I am a Dodger fan behind enemy lines in Northern California. At this point, anything less than a World Series title means ridicule from the fans who root for the team in the Bay. And when the fear of losing outweighs the join of winning, that can be a problem.

Still, this guarantees the team will be on national broadcasts almost every week and that's a good thing. I'll take it.
